City Celebrates 565th Anniversary of Conquest of Istanbul

Turkey marked on Tuesday the 1453 Ottoman conquest of Istanbul on its 565th anniversary with a grandiose ceremony with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The celebrations took place at the Haliç Congress Center under the auspicious of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipalityn (IMM).Citing the importance of Istanbul for world history and Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Governor of Istanbul Vasip Şahin made the opening remarks at the 565th anniversary of Istanbul's conquest by the Ottoman Emperor Fatih Sultan Mehmet.

Speaking at a meeting President Erdoğan said: “We will not allow those, looking for an opportunity to undermine this august and beautiful city, to achieve their goals. We will not give any chance to those who seek to kill the light of conquest shining at each and every hill, sanctuary and house in Istanbul. We will defend our national unity and solidarity until the end. We will protect the integrity of our country at the expense of our lives.”

A splendid audio visual show depicting the conquest of Istanbul along with military marches played by an authentic Ottoman janissary band turned the night into a memorable event.
